It is separated into sections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Before You Arrive<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>You will receive an email from the IT Department with details about your login credentials. You will also be asked to complete a survey with regard to your experience using the technology platforms we use at NIST. This will help us tailor the in-person training to meet your needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Device Distribution<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The <strong>Device Distribution<\/strong> section will take approximately 25 minutes.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tech Technology Support Team (aka the IT Department)<\/strong> (2 mins)<br>Tech Support is&nbsp;here to help you&nbsp;to understand and troubleshoot our school devices and systems. To get support:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Come to the IT Office (Secondary Building, 1st floor).<\/li><li>Email <a href=\"mailto:helpdesk@nist.ac.th\">helpdesk@nist.ac.th<\/a> to raise a ticket. <em>(Do not email IT Dept group)<\/em><\/li><li><strong>For urgent support, <\/strong>your classroom phone has the # for Help Desk (1442).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>School&nbsp;Device(s) Setup<\/strong> (10 mins)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You will be provided a laptop device on your first day and also an iPad (with cover and Apple Pencil) if you teach in the elementary school. <\/p>\n\n\n    \t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle  \"  >\r\n    \t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__title\">Click to reveal activity<\/div>\r\n    \t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__content\">\r\n    \t\t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__contentwrap\">\r\n    \t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>If you are new to NIST, please submit this <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLScSr0BlBZLV7hQVI6GrUqLhC2rSIHm7OD__nAEcFwN5Y7W_9Q\/viewform?usp=sf_link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Technology Acceptable Use Policy for Staff Form<\/a>. <\/li>\n<li>Follow the instructions on the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1QuIXK4I_cthAMYblIySUvmqyB5fzbfXi0yAUl95AGwM\/edit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NIST &#8211; Setup Laptop<\/a>&nbsp;document to change the device and NIST passwords. (You should get a copy with your device.)<\/li>\n<li>If you wish to connect your smartphone to nistwifi, use only username (not full email address). You may need help from Tech Support if you have an Android phone.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n    \t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n    \t\t\t<\/div><!-- \/ht-toggle-content -->\r\n    \t\t<\/div>\r\n    \t\t\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Device Security: Screensaver and Password<\/strong>: (8 mins)<br>Here are a few items to set up to make you and your computer safe and secure yet easy to log in.<\/p>\n\n\n    \t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle  \"  >\r\n    \t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__title\">Click to reveal activity<\/div>\r\n    \t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__content\">\r\n    \t\t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__contentwrap\">\r\n    \t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Please be sure to set up your device with Hot Corners so that it locks easily when you want it to be locked.<\/li>\n<li>Go to Apple menu &gt; System Preferences &gt; TouchID and follow the instructions to be able to open your laptop with your fingerprint.<\/li>\n<li>If you have an iPad, go to Settings &gt; TouchID &amp; Passcode. Set to Require a Passcode and add a Fingerprint.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n    \t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n    \t\t\t<\/div><!-- \/ht-toggle-content -->\r\n    \t\t<\/div>\r\n    \t\t\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Your First Day at School<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The <strong>Your First Day at School<\/strong> section will take approximately 50 minutes.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These are the essential things to know on your first day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Set Up Chrome and Gmail<\/strong>: (5 mins)<br>We use Google Workspace for Education which includes Gmail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>It is best to sign in to Google Chrome when first prompted. (Or click the top right corner or the People menu &gt; Add Person).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n    \t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle  \"  >\r\n    \t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__title\">Click to reveal activity<\/div>\r\n    \t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__content\">\r\n    \t\t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__contentwrap\">\r\n    \t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be sure you have logged in to Google Chrome.<\/li>\n<li>You should see NIST Bookmarks on your bookmarks bar now.<\/li>\n<li>Verify your signature. Verify that these three things are already selected in Gmail &gt; Settings &gt; Signature<br \/>\n<a href=\"\/technology\/files\/2017\/01\/signature.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-17675\" src=\"\/technology\/files\/2021\/07\/signature.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"593\" height=\"243\"><\/a><\/li>\n<li>Set as default. Your first step is to set GMail as the default email application. From a GMail browser window\/tab in Chrome, you will see a double-diamond icon at the right end of the URL\/Search Bar. Click this and select \u201cUse Gmail\u201d -&gt; \u201cDone.\u201d This will ensure that clicking email links (including the email functions in Veracross) will compose the email in Gmail.<br \/>\n<a href=\"\/technology\/files\/2017\/01\/signature.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-17675\" src=\"\/technology\/files\/2023\/07\/Gmail-Default-Handler-Diamond-Icon.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"293\" height=\"143\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you do not see the double-diamond icon as shown in the screenshot above and email links do not automatically open in GMail, then follow these instructions. Copy and paste the following URL into your google chrome browser, chrome:\/\/settings\/handlers. Click on the 3 dots next to mail.google.com and click remove, as seen in the screenshot below. After doing this, refresh GMail and you should now see the double-diamond icon.<br \/>\n<a href=\"\/technology\/files\/2017\/01\/signature.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-17675\" src=\"\/technology\/files\/2015\/11\/remove_default_mail_Handler-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"493\" height=\"143\"><\/a><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n    \t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n    \t\t\t<\/div><!-- \/ht-toggle-content -->\r\n    \t\t<\/div>\r\n    \t\t\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Veracross<\/strong>: (10 mins)<br><a href=\"http:\/\/portals.veracross.com\/nist\">Veracross<\/a> is our central system for nearly everything. As teachers, you will interact every day with it to do attendance and periodically for many other things. This will automatically convert newly uploaded documents to Google formats. See how in the activity.<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.nist.ac.th\/technology\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/Screen-Shot-2016-10-03-at-8.18.11-PM.png\"><\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The school uses Shared Folders in Google Drive for sharing institutional documents. More information will be provided later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Seesaw<\/strong> (Elementary Teachers) (20 mins)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We use Seesaw in the Elementary School. Seesaw creates a powerful learning loop between students, teachers, and families. Students use built-in multimodal tools to capture what they know in Seesaw\u2019s digital portfolio. Teachers see all stages of student thinking and progress, enabling them to teach better. Families gain a window into their child&#8217;s learning and engage in home-to-school connections. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For training purposes, you will be added to a Seesaw test class. This test class is a place for you to explore Seesaw and make as many mistakes as you can! Click <a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/HT4721\">here for a tutorial<\/a>. &nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><strong>Switching From PC to Mac<\/strong><\/strong>: (5 mins)<br>Click <a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/HT204216\">here for a tutorial<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>iPad Guide<\/strong>: (10 mins)<br>Go over the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/blogs.nist.ac.th\/technology\/knowledge-base\/basic-ipad-guidelines-for-teachers\/#your-first-10-minutes-with-an-ipad\" target=\"_blank\">First 10 Minutes with iPad section of our iPad Guide<\/a> to learn how to use the iPad efficiently. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator is-style-wide\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Your First Two Weeks<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The <strong>Your First Two Weeks at School<\/strong> section will take approximately 105 minutes.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These are the essential things to know by the end of orientation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>MyConcern System for Safeguarding<\/strong> (2 mins)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>MyConcern is our safeguarding reporting system. Your MyConcern account will be created around July 2. You will receive an email. Please follow the instructions to activate your account and set your password within 30 days of that email.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Google Drive for School Documents<\/strong> <strong>and Google Groups<\/strong> (7 mins)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have used Google Drive before, you do not need to do the complete guide, but here are the most important of the ideas about Drive at NIST.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Your team leader(s) will explain the organization structures inside of your Shared Folders (that we added in the First Day training above).<\/li><li>To make a new team document, navigate to the preferred&nbsp;folder then&nbsp;make&nbsp;the new&nbsp;document. This will not only have it in the correct location, but it will also set sharing automatically. <\/li><li>We prefer sharing to groups rather than individuals.<\/li><li>You can see which groups you belong to by going to <a href=\"https:\/\/groups.google.com\/my-groups\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">My Groups<\/a> in Google.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n    \t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle  \"  >\r\n    \t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__title\">Click to reveal activity<\/div>\r\n    \t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__content\">\r\n    \t\t\t\t<div class=\"hts-toggle__contentwrap\">\r\n    \t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Go to Google Drive and navigate to your team folder. Look at the main folder organization.<\/li>\n<li>Go into one subfolder, then create a New document.<\/li>\n<li>Open the sharing permissions on the dock to see the automatic sharing.<\/li>\n<li>On that same document, go to File menu, Move to Bin (to remove your extra file). <\/li>\n<li>Go to My Groups and make sure you are in all team groups that you should be in (one for each team, dept, school level to which you are associated).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n    \t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n    \t\t\t<\/div><!-- \/ht-toggle-content -->\r\n    \t\t<\/div>\r\n    \t\t\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Veracross &#8211; More Items and Attendance<\/strong> (15 mins)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This video show a few other things that you should know by your first week. Change the date to the first day of school.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\n    \t\t\t\t<\/div>\r\n    \t\t\t<\/div><!-- \/ht-toggle-content -->\r\n    \t\t<\/div>\r\n    \t\t\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Communications<\/strong> (5 mins)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The Staff portal is a one-stop place&nbsp;for important documents, links, and&nbsp;daily\/weekly news articles and updates for all staff.
