{"id":17611,"date":"2020-05-28T14:29:57","date_gmt":"2020-05-28T14:29:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.nist.ac.th\/technology\/?post_type=ht_kb&#038;p=17611"},"modified":"2021-07-16T03:40:47","modified_gmt":"2021-07-16T03:40:47","slug":"blended-learning","status":"publish","type":"ht_kb","link":"https:\/\/blogs.nist.ac.th\/technology\/knowledge-base\/blended-learning\/","title":{"rendered":"Blended Learning Options"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In this article, <strong>blended learning or hybrid learning<\/strong> refers to learning where some students are learning in the room and other students are at home. <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This\u00a0<strong>article outlines different options for teachers.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<h2>Objectives<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>We seek to integrate at-home and in-person learners.<\/li>\n<li>We seek to enhance and deepen learning through the use of technology in a seamless way for all students (in-class or at-home).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Techniques to Use<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Chances for the students to <b>combine academics and creativity<\/b>. Check out this <a href=\"https:\/\/padlet.com\/alexandraatrotter\/a05vii61g7j06cu2\">Padlet <\/a>of some things done in the Y10 IDU.<\/li>\n<li>Continue <b>clearly stating the lesson&#8217;s<\/b> <strong>structure\/ intentions\/ outcomes\/ objectives\/ tasks<\/strong> on the class platform so that those both groups of learners have the same instructions, regardless of network issues, audio issues, etc.<\/li>\n<li>The &#8220;teacher&#8221; has a few options:\n<ol>\n<li>Pair one remote learner with one in-person learner. See below for details.<\/li>\n<li>Arrange your classroom display to show both the content (slides, site, web, app, etc.) and the video of the remote students). <em>(this option is useful when teacher leading the class. For audio, teacher should either stand near mic on presenting device.)\u00a0<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Teacher joins Zoom meeting with two devices to use one as content sharing and other as classroom display (see below video). iPad joined to Zoom is very mobile as audio and microphone.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n    \t\t<div class=\"hts-messages hts-messages--alert  hts-messages--withtitle hts-messages--withicon \"   >\r\n    \t\t\t<span class=\"hts-messages__title\">Watch out!<\/span>    \t\t\t    \t\t\t\t<p>\r\n    \t\t\t\t\tIf you join a meeting with iPad, you need to leave the meeting to turn off the mic sharing. Happen<\/b><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><b>Students in class to have a way to connect with students at home while not needing to share content synchronously.\u00a0<\/b><\/td>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Run Zoom on\u00a0classroom\u00a0iPad or a MacBook and place in a strategic location.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students from home join at certain times.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><\/td>\n<td><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><b>Integrate remote and in-person learners.<\/b><\/td>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Veracross class\u00a0directories are a great way for students to see each others&#8217; names and pictures.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Be sure to make groups with a mix of in-class and at-home students.<\/li>\n<li>Google Classroom students\/people tab (to see names of classmates).<\/li>\n<li>Instead of 1 buddy -&gt; we can make multiple buddies in each of their classes. Buddies can use Hangouts Chat to text chat or Hangout with each other. Answer questions, etc.<\/li>\n<li>Need a social media platform &#8211; I think we should ask student council if they suggest something.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><b>Get students to help you run Zoom and connect to at-home students.<\/b><\/td>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li>Pair\u00a0<u>one<\/u> in-class learner with <u>one<\/u> at-home learner during the lesson.<\/li>\n<li>The in-class learner can then host a &#8220;zoom&#8221; with the at-home learner on their own laptop.<\/li>\n<li>The at-home learner can hear the lesson easily and ask the in-class learner for clarification or to ask questions to the teacher on their behalf.<\/li>\n<li>The in-class learner can also share their screen (using Google Classroom posted resources) to mimic the teacher-led in-class presentation at the correct pace.<\/li>\n<li>The in-class learner can also use their camera to show the at-home student different people speaking in the class as appropriate.<\/li>\n<li>This also seems to work well for Year-level assemblies and workshops.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><b>Teacher to\u00a0show content (slides, web page, app)\u00a0to\u00a0all students (in classroom and on Zoom). The students at home should be visible to the class and teacher. The classroom should be somewhat visible to the home students. The home students will have a similar view.<\/b><\/td>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Run Zoom on the computer attached to the classroom display\/projector (best if Macbook with webcam). <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Home students join Zoom. Use Gallery View.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">MacBook webcam aimed to focal point (students in class or front of room or teacher). This will be a small image to students so not imperative.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Easy level:<\/strong> Share\u00a0your screen\u00a0or browser window into your Zoom meeting (many people already did this last year). <em>Pro tip from Angelo for Google Slides: Click on Present, but then use the Exit full screen (Shift + Command + F) button then resize the slides window to take up 3\/4 of your screen and floating zoom panel on the right side.<\/em><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Advanced level:<\/strong> Join your own Zoom meeting with another device such as an iPad and share its screen into the Zoom meeting.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the main computer,\u00a0split the window to show up to 10 students on right and your content on the left.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">    \t\t<div class=\"hts-messages hts-messages--info  hts-messages--withtitle hts-messages--withicon \"   >\r\n    \t\t\t<span class=\"hts-messages__title\">Audio setup<\/span>    \t\t\t    \t\t\t\t<p>\r\n    \t\t\t\t\tLaptop: Mute Mic, Mute Speakers iPad: Join Audio of Zoom You will get feedback if you have mic and speakers from both iPad and MacBook at same time.    \t\t\t\t<\/p>\r\n    \t\t\t    \t\t\t\r\n    \t\t<\/div><!-- \/.ht-shortcodes-messages -->\r\n    \t\t<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><b>Students to have a whole-class discussion<\/b><\/td>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As above, but with no screen sharing so the teacher computer is on Gallery View on the display in the classroom.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Audio output of Zoom goes to the display device.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Blue hand for those at home or speak to let you know they have a question.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Use discussion board in\u00a0Veracross to have class discussions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><b>Student presentation in classrooms<\/b><\/td>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Same as the teacher presenting content (above).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><b>Student presentation from home<\/b><\/td>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Allow screen share by participants.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Audio from teacher computer will need to be connected to classroom speakers.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Teacher\u00a0device with webcam pointing at the class (so that student presenter can see audience).<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students present using Zoom.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Questions from the audience will need to be repeated so that the home student(s) can hear the questions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><b>Question from student at home<\/b><\/td>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Home student questions will be heard on the teacher device.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Likely have to repeat the question to the classroom students.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><b>Question from a student in the classrooom<\/b><\/td>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Classroom student questions will be heard to everyone in the classroom but not heard by the teacher device mic.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Teacher must repeat\u00a0questions for the benefit of\u00a0the home students.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><b>Play a video\u00a0<\/b><\/td>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be sure to Share system audio when you share your screen in Zoom.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><b>Students work in small groups either separate or mixed<\/b><\/td>\n<td>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Determine if you want each group to involve home and classroom students or to keep them separate.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If separate groups, make enough breakout rooms for home students, and set your classroom students to be in groups (but apart). None of this is mandatory! For example, run Zoom from Macbook and point webcam at you or your whiteboard or your classroom.
