{"id":3185,"date":"2015-11-15T21:22:36","date_gmt":"2015-11-15T21:22:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.nist.ac.th\/eleict\/?p=3185"},"modified":"2023-07-31T13:40:10","modified_gmt":"2023-07-31T06:40:10","slug":"gmail-basics","status":"publish","type":"ht_kb","link":"https:\/\/blogs.nist.ac.th\/technology\/knowledge-base\/gmail-basics\/","title":{"rendered":"GMail Basics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NIST uses the\u00a0browser-based Gmail system for emails.<\/p>\n<p>Please take a look at what we\u00a0think are some of the first things you need to do to get your GMail setup properly.<\/p>\n<h2>Logging in<\/h2>\n<p>Simply open up a browser and head on over <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">http:\/\/www.google.com<\/a>\u00a0and log in with your usual NIST username and password.<\/p>\n<h2>Set as default<\/h2>\n<p>Your first step is to set <span class=\"il\">GMail<\/span> as the <span class=\"il\">default<\/span> email application. From a <span class=\"il\">GMail<\/span> browser window\/tab in Chrome, you will see a double-diamond icon at the right end of the URL\/Search Bar. Copy and paste the following URL into your google chrome browser,\u00a0<a href=\"chrome:\/\/settings\/handlers\">chrome:\/\/settings\/handlers<\/a>. Click on the 3 dots next to mail.google.com and click remove, as seen in the screenshot below. Please click here to make changes to customize your Gmail account. This is done to ensure consistency of photos to assist recognition.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: left;\">Signatures<\/h2>\n<p>Staff accounts are created with a signature. If any changes required, please click Settings to edit the relevant information and save the changes at the bottom.<\/p>\n<h2>Conversation View<\/h2>\n<p>This falls under the love\/hate category &#8212; some folks love to have emails of the same topic all grouped together, others prefer to maintain the chronological nature of all emails. Rather, did you notice right as you hit send that you wrote &#8216;thier&#8217; not once, not twice, but thrice? &#8216;Undo Send&#8217; will allow you to cancel the sending process and fix any errors.
