Classroom Devices

Elementary Classroom Devices

Elementary classrooms are equipped with the following:

  • Within a year, all classrooms will have a TV on wheels and an Apple TV which allows wireless projection on a nice bright screen. Although it is not interactive, using AirPlay to project an iPad, or using Apple Classroom to display student screens enhances learning and is more flexible.
  • Audio is from the TV which simplifies any setup. Homeroom classrooms have a voice distribution system called FrontRow.
  • Each Ele class or teacher is provided one iPad (which doubles as a camera, document camera, microphone, writing tablet, and so much more.
  • Best Practice with Classroom Audiovisual Guide

Elementary Bookable Devices

The elementary school has an ICT center where items can be borrowed:

  • tripods
  • video cameras
  • Green screen room (ELE: Lab 4, Giga Lab; SEC: Digital Design Lab (CAB))
  • Google Cardboard (VR or AR headsets)
  • Littlebits
  • Robots – Sphero, Hummingbird set, and Dash

Elementary Student Devices

  • In elementary school, students in years 2-6 are each issued a school iPad for their use to support their learning (and class sets for EY and Year 1).
  • Years 4, 5, and 6 each have a shared MacBook Air laptop cart (14 machines each)

Secondary Classroom Devices

Secondary classrooms are equipped with the following:

  • Soon, all classrooms will have a TV on wheels and an Apple TV which allows wireless projection on a nice bright screen. Although it is not interactive, using AirPlay to project an iPad, or using Apple Classroom to display student screens enhances learning and is more flexible.
  • Audio is from the TV which simplifies any setup.
  • Best Practice with Classroom Audiovisual Guide

Secondary Bookable Devices

Secondary school has IT office where items can be borrowed (See IT bookable devices above).

Secondary Student Devices

In secondary school, students are each issued a school Macbook Air laptop for their use to support their learning. Students use them at school and at home and keep them during the summer. Students are admins of their own machines, so they can install their own software – which is both a blessing and something that needs to be monitored.

Printing Devices

  • Ricoh printer/copiers are housed in various offices for low volume copying/printing. Multi-function printer/scanner/copiers are located throughout the school.

Personal Devices

  • Since we provide computers for your school and home use, you really don’t need to bring a computer; however, we realize that some of you will want to do so.
  • NIST allows all members of the community to use their own personal devices on the network. Details about logins are found on the Internet and Network Access page. Personal devices are subject to bandwidth restrictions in order to prioritize our internet connection for educational activities on NIST devices.
  • Teachers can easily use a number of phone providers. Data plans for smartphones are relatively inexpensive.
  • For purchasing personal IT, the closest to school is IT Mall, in Fortune Tower on the intersection of Ratchadapiskek road and Asok-Din Daeng road. Take the MRT to Rama 9 station. Pantip Plaza is the biggest but a little harder to get to. A good place to get mobile phones is MBK at National Stadium BTS station.
  • There are many internet service providers in BKK. Some condo buildings will require a certain provider. TOT is the national phone company. You may want to choose a mobile, cable and internet package from one company.  (True, TOT, KSC, 3BB, etc.)
  • The IT Dept. will provide support at school for personal devices to help you with setting up NIST services on them.
