Offline Gmail and Calendar

This is perhaps only interesting to a couple of folks here at NIST, but I’ve been testing the offline capabilities of Gmail and Calendar. So far, mail is working fine and dandy, with emails up to one month ago syncing into your browser for offline access. While you are online, you’ll need to enable it in your Gmail settings.

This will open up a new tab which you must bookmark. Your emails will begin to sync back roughly one month (including attachments). When you find yourself without a connection, simply open up Chrome and navigate to the bookmarked Offline Gmail (give it about 45 seconds to load). You can then compose emails that will be sent when you are again connected.

Calendar is working as well, although the functionality is limited. You enable it in the same way as Gmail (by going into Settings). No need to bookmark a new site in this case. However, you will only be able to see two months ahead, and you won’t be able to create new events.

We will keep looking for more cool tips and tricks, so please let us know if there are things you discover or things that you want to see!
