Safari Private Browsing

One thing teachers might want to be aware of is how to disable ‘Private Mode’ in the Safari App. This functions like Incognito Mode in Chrome, so that no history is recorded. Fortunately, there’s a quick visual way to tell if a student has enabled this mode: the title bar turns black, rather than the typical grey (this is also the case in Chrome).

In order to turn this off, tap the (+) symbol in the top-right. Once this is pressed, the word ‘Private’ shows up in the bottom-left. When you tap that, you’ll have to ‘Close All’ or ‘Keep All’ and Safari will re-enter ‘Normal Mode’.

In addition to this, we’d like all students to refrain from clearing their search histories. We really don’t like to come from a suspicious mind-set, but there’s really no legitimate reason that any of our kids would ever need to clear their history.

As usual, Nareeya, Tosca, and Brian are here to help if any of this is unclear.
